Bears Provide Comfort During Deployment

By ikorajkic | April 23, 2010

(As sent in by Laurie Durell)

The day my boyfriend left for a one year deployment with the U.S. Navy was one of the saddest and most difficult days of my life.  I’m not sure how I even drove myself home through all of the tears after watching him get on the plane. Upon arriving home from work the next day, I noticed a package at my front door.
Ted Bear & Laurie BearIt was a Vermont Teddy Bear !
Sent by my wonderful mother !  I was never a teddy bear kind of person, even as a child, but I fell in love with this bear immediately. He was appropriately named, Commander Robert “Teddy” Corrigan.  If I couldn’t have my boyfriend to hold, I at least had a little replica. After a few weeks I thought, “He should have a teddy bear replica of me to keep him company.”  Thus was born Laurie Bear.  And off she went on an important deployment of her own.
Bob & Laurie So there I was, a grown woman, cuddling with a teddy bear every night.  He provided me a level of comfort even I was surprised at. And when we were able to webcam, seeing my man cuddle with his bear, gave me some additional peace.  She was there to take care of him.

Well, my boyfriend is finally back home, and while we both have the real thing to hold now, we will never forget how much our bears helped us through a difficult year.  Now, they keep each other company.

    This is very sweet!

My boyfriend who is in the US Army sent me a Vermont Teddy Bear that looks exactly like him too. He sent me a macho Loverboy teddy.

“If I couldn’t have my boyfriend to hold, I at least had a little replica” is so true! I hug him every morning in my office until I start work. 😀
